The
peculiarity of the Museum is that it collects all the
various kind of amphorae, different in typology and in
chronology, that have been salvaged along the whole
Mediterranean Sea from the trawlers of San Benedetto
marine, that during fifties and sixties were usual to go
fishing along Aegean, Ionian, Tyrrhenian and Adriatic
Sea.
The collections is a unique one in Italy: it collects
submarine findings coming from different periods and
cultures (Punic, Greek, Roman and Phoenician amphorae).
The
staging of the Museum was conceived in order to
reconcile both scientific purposes and popular ones;
every step of the exhibition (trades, handiworks,
amphorae, naval architecture and submarine researches)
is illustrated by didactic panels and concise legends.
